Finally got the new boat home a few days ago. Weather was intermittently nasty, but we managed to get on the trailer without much difficulty. Thankfully the water wasn't too cold while I swam around adjusting the pads to the boat. Had to heavily modify the trailer from use on my C25 SK, but it worked out very well. The mast raising/lowering system I added was outstanding, and really made the chore much simpler. There were no mast raising stays on the boat however, and the hooks on my ratchet straps would not fit in the holes on the mast, so we had to improvise. I used the jib halyard to lower the mast, and used the main halyard to hold a loop even with the holes in the mast through which I hooked the ratchet straps. Worked out very well, especially with the wind gusting.
This photo is before I made final adjustments to the trailer. Even got the boat launched in time to be in our Parade of Lights this past Sunday!
BTW, I spent hours digging through the archives getting tips for trailering. This forum always amazes me with the amount of support available here!

How is the sailing over on Lake Belton? Even though we are over in College Station, I am considering keeping our Catalina 250 there. We have little kids and are looking at weekend sailing adventures, rafting up, and overnighting. Used to race quite a bit, but now working on teaching it to the kiddos. Have looked around on Conroe, but not as much activity during the weekend as we would like. Let me know a fellow C250's thoughts on it. Take care.
Hi Charles, I've been on Lake Belton for a few years and really like it. Having said that though, it's a USACOE lake so there are very few facilities. Four marinas, including the one on Ft Hood (which I chose not to use even though much cheaper). Many parks though so its possible to park a RV and anchor out nearby if you desire. The lake is not huge, but still enjoyable. We have a small but active yacht club that fills the calendar with the types of events you mentioned. I've never been on Conroe so I can't compare the two lakes.

Where do you keep your boat? At Frank's Marina? From what I can tell that appears to be the marina of choice. Do you know if there is a beach-type area nearby for the kids to play?
Our other thought is to keep it over on Lake Travis. Wife likes the close proximity to Austin, but I haven't found a spot on it where the grade isn't worrisome for the kids. I'm guessing that we will make a trip in the coming weeks to scout out some locations in both areas. Thx.

Also considering Travis. How difficult was it to get the C250 on and off its trailer on Travis vs. Belton? We have never launched or retrieved the boat from the trailer, only the hoist.
Had my C25 on Travis for 8 months before moving it to Belton; also bought the C250 on Travis. Getting in and out of Travis is very easy as long as the lake is up. For a couple of years every public ramp on Travis was closed because of the drought. Even as low as Lake Belton got the ramp didn't close.
There's a lot more facilities on Travis, and more room to sail. But there's a LOT more boats and people on Travis. I've raced and pleasure boated on Travis and it was always crowded.
It's a tough choice but keep in mind whichever you choose, it's not a permanent decision. You can always move the boat!
Also, I saw your request to join the LBYC Yahoo group. I'll make sure it gets approved, but honestly we don't use the group much anymore. The web site and Facebook have all our info.
