I don't hate the Jet Skis.

I just dislike the Dumb**ses on them that do not know what they are doing.

I can think of some other things to use that missile on, like the moron stinkpot drivers that don't know what they are doing. Plus it’s a bigger target.

Hey Bryan,

How about the lady who almost ran over one of the kids in our sailing club with her big motor yacht. Her excuse was that it wasn't her fault, she was down below while she had the boat on autopilot and the kid in the opti pram should have been looking out.

I tend to agree, if you stay out of the way of PWC's Darwin will usually work his magic over the long haul. Its the greasy guys with harry backs and 35 foot long stink boats that are more of the problem. The ones who, even though it isn't against the law to make a wake inside the breakwall, do anyway.

I do have another method though for dealing with Jetskiers - For those of you that can - Sail your boat about 5 miles off shore I can almost gurantee most of the Jet Skiers won't be out there! (that is unless you only have a 5.5 mile wide lake)

The real kicker is when you're in a nice anchorage, a 65-foot stinker wanders in, electrically drops his anchor, and then swings 2 PWCs overboard so the kids can bomb around the anchorage. No doubt, the parents tell the kids they have to remain in sight, so the noise and chop is continual, past dusk. It's then that I wish I had a couple of fishing poles and some serious surf-casting lures (lead with big triple-gang hooks). I remember one glorious Sat. afternoon in the marina. I'm slipped about 50 yards from the fuel dock and this jetski pulls away from the pump and lays it wide open! I scream at him, he shuts it down, looks at me as much to say "who the hxll are you" and opens it wide again...20 yards further along the dock was the County Sheriff! He hauls him over. "How long you been driving that thing?" "2 years officer". "Haven't learned a bloody thing have you!" Wrote him an $85 ticket...whoopeee, justice was served! <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Several years ago I was at a confrence to address the issues of PWC user education. All four manufacturers were in the room. When asked by the mfg's on what they might do to help, I suggested that they put target decals on the fuel tank so that we would know where to aim to take them out. Put a chill on the rest of the meeting!

Use a paint ball gun - not only does it sting - it also marks them for easy identification by the DNR

I don't hate all jet skiers, in fact I love one. My son who keeps his at our lake house. In return for storing it, he tells me I can use whenever I want. Right!

I don't like jetskis or waverunners, but sometimes I use one for the sailing class, so I can go between the students on the sunfishes and help if necessary. Easy to bail out and help with righting a turtled fish while holding the bow rope. I also might be going to rescue a sailboat in distress. So when you aim, please make sure it's not me! I don't like riding them at all.

The law here in Texas is very simple. PWC are not allowed to travel above idle speed within 50 feet of ANYTHING, including each other! I think it should be 500 feet at least.

I can't condemn all jetskiers - especially since one came to our aid when we were dismasted on our Prindle 16 several years ago. The problem is when the DRIVER thinks he/she owns the water. I like the paintball idea - hmmmm.

Your Prindle 16 story reminded me of another one involving a Prindle 16. Back in my Hobie days, we were milling around preparing to go out for a race. I saw a jet ski with a young boy on it and he seemed out of control and had this panic look on his face. His course was irradic and he suddenly veered towards shore. I hollard a headsup and one of the ladies standing in shallow water hanging onto the shrouds on her boy friends Prindle lurched onto the trampoline to escape being crushed between the jet ski and the hull. The hull of the Prindle was holed right under the shrouds she was holding.

Something I noticed during my two trips to the San Juans: no Jet Skis. The water temp, even in July, is only in the mid-50's, too cold for PWC's unless the rider is in a wetsuit. San Francisco Bay is also a no-Jet-Ski zone, but you DO have to keep an eye out for the occasional 800' long container ships and oil tankers moving at 12 knots right through the best sailing areas...<img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

I don't hate any type of boat but do resist damaging some operators. For some time I was considering getting a jet boat as a dinghy for the 25, but the National Seashore Park Service hereabout established limits for use for the jets, (1000 yards from any shore within the park's boundaries), that made them unusuable for the service that I had in mind.

In my world the JERKSKI operators fall somewhere betwen flies and mosquitoes. Unfortunately swating them indiscriminately is as bothersome as their antics. Don's reflection is on target, judge the operator not the vehicle. Something like the Christian admonition to,"hate the sin, not the sinner".

Well I've washed Calista's bottom and as soon as the yard takes their bubbler out of my slip I'll have her put it. (PUTIN that's the Russian guy, right?) Sheeesch

Good images of many Jetskis, but the image that often seems appropriate in a realitively crowded place is the GNAT. Just the whole swarm of the invading your space!

Also, I liked the idea of using Trevor's pwc for the Junior sailing program. My job is camp photographer. Suspect I could get in some pretty interesting spots to help teach the kids!

The last Jimmy Buffet I read was Pirate Looks At Fifty. Very good read. Although I confess I was disappointed to find out he didn't sail around the islands all that much. He was flying his sea plane. Then again he almost got himself killed doing that too. Wow, what a mood swing. To go from kicked back slow sailing to faster than Mr. Power Boater.
