This might sound petty. <img src=icon_smile_shy.gif border=0 align=middle>
Is there anyway to know how many boats for each class are interested and are going the Syracuse for the nationals? The reason I ask, it is a 1200 mile trip from Colorado Springs to Syracuse and I am torn between going and not. My sailing side of me says go and race this is the only time you will ever get to race. My business side says you have a business to run you can't go. So if I knew about how many c250 are going it might sway my decision one way or the other.

Again sorry if this sounds petty but I don't want to go all that way to have my non racing a** handed to me by Milby, Derek & the rest of the big time c25 racers but if I get my a** handed to me by fellow c250 (witch is what will probably happen) that would be okay.

Bryan,

Come on out and sail with us. I am going up from NC and while you have me beat on mileage I have you beat on non-racing aptitude. (By the way... Is there a class for skippers who use the stern rail grill during the race?) I have three sails for my racing selection, the main, the 110 jib on a furler and a riding sail. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

This will be a great time to visit and meet your fellow Catalina owners and have some fun. <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

Bryan I am undecided. As you know I am a lot closer to Syracuse and would like to go (almost feel obligated being so close). However, I was going to wait till May and talk to some of the other sailors at Hanna Creek to see if I could get somebody to skipper my C250 as I have no race exprerience and would be more comfortable as crew. It seems as though (after reading the banter between Derek & Steve) I can cross Steve off the list of potential skippers as he seems like he wants to put a notch in his gun, and sailing a C250 doesn't fit into that gameplan. There are two C250 owners at Brookville who race and maybe they would go once they knew about it.

Bryan - You won't be racing against C-25s. You C-250s will race against each other, in your own class. It sounds like there are already some 250s that are planning to race. I've decided to race if I can get my boat ready.

Ray - If you want to learn to race, I'll be glad to teach you in the first race or two of this season at Brookville Lake, and then you can skipper your own boat, and all you will need is crew. If you get someone from BLSA who has racing experience to crew for you at the Nationals, they can help you as tactician also. If you will contact me by e-mail at sailorman6@netzero.net, I can suggest some people who might enjoy crewing for you.

I wrote a 38 page discussion of racing techniques that I was planning to post on the racing page of this website, but it might not get posted before the Nationals. If anyone would like a copy of it, send me a request for it by e-mail at the above address, and I will send it to you by return e-mail. It is not a discussion of sail trim. It discusses various strategies and tactics that can be used during a race.

Clif - If you give hotdogs to the Race Committee as you cross the finish line it might help....of course, steak might work even better!

I suggest any racers out there get Steve's article - it's a doozy!
Remember everyone - there will be 3 fleets in the Nationals (we hope!) C25 Tall, C25 Standard and the C250's and 3 champions will be declared.

This I understand.
The paper work I got in the mail #6 on the conditions page states that all three classes will start & race concurrently.

So that means we will be racing together.

Bryan - sorry for the confusion! I think that it means that the 3 fleets will start together, but will be racing only against the other boats in their own fleet.

I could definitely get interested in the Cooking on the Grill section of the race. Might even toss a few beers to the others too.

I know nothing about racing (except that there is a lot of whining and protesting involved) and would like to get a copy of the 36 page how to race booklet mentioned. Heck, I'll even send in a few bucks to pay for copying and other expenses.

Let me know how to get the booklet.

Do we have to have legal representation before we can race? Just kidding.

Derek,

At one time I think you mentioned that the association was going to try to have an over all champion as well as the 3 fleet champions. What has become of that? If that is going to happen how will it be scored?

Bryan - I believe that there was some discussion with regard to declaring an overall champion. I'm not an Officer (altho' Jack Metzel and I will be pinch hitting for Dave as Measurers) so I don't know what was the final decision. Again, IMHO, I think it would somehow need to be PHRF based.
Frank - we have not had a protest in our races for the last 3 years...

Add another c250 to the list. Daylight Again and crew are going to Nationals.<img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle> My dad who taught me everything about sailing lives in the Cincinnati area and is going to meet us there and race with us. This looks to be a fun time. I have not spent Fathers Day with my Dad in 16 years.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> After the Nationals my family and I will meet in Cincinnati spend a week visiting the relatives in the area <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>.

Thanks to the people on this forum that posted comments to this thread swayed my decision to go!

Val and Derek and others who are contemplating this trip. Obviously pulling, transporting and relaunching these boats twice in one week is no small feat. I don't know how much you were counting on bringing your own boats and/or how determined you are to utilize certain models, but, you are certainly welcome to race on and sleep on OJ in the event we all end up attending this event.

Steve on OJ - I thank you for your offer, I may have to take you up on it! I still haven't made a firm decision to bring "This Side Up", basically it's a 3,000 mile round trip...(ouch!) I sure would like to go heads up against S.Milby tho'....<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
