Hi folks,

The other day I had a guy measure my boat for a custom canvas cabin cover. I figured if I'm going to spend many hours refinishing teak I need to protect it.

He noticed that my Lewmar 16 self tailing winches are oriented incorrectly.

I just got off the phone with Lewmar and the customer rep was very helpful. (As apposed to the Garelick company, I'll try to never buy their products again)

He explained that the pickup arm can be orientated in any direction, as opposed to what their information on their website shows. You orient it to have the line fall in the cockpit of course. The winch itself has a certain orientation with a certain gear orientated towards the load.

He is going to fax me some information. He says they redesigned their winch in 1992, and my 89 model is an old one.

I appreciate customer service and am loyal to companies who give it (As opposed to Garelick, did I mention that I'm not happy with those folks)

So how have you folks oriented your self tailing jib sheet winches (no, no, not WENCHES)
