I'm wanting to replace my head portlights with some opening ones and can't get to the boat, does anyone know the overall dimensions or the "hole" dimension on these? Any idea what size lewmar or other port is the one to order? I've talked to Catalina Direct and they are no longer selling the lewmar ports that they have advertised on their website. Don't know why. They wouldn't tell me which ones would fit my boat without the measurements anyway. I have an 82, std, swinger. Thanks!

I tried the Lewmar replacement but it required some additional cutting of the cabin wall to fit properly. Instead, I replaced my windows - one was the leaky slider type - with two others from a salvage C25. They don't open, but I have a fan in a cutout above the head area for ventilation.

Patrick,
I replaced my original (1981) head portlites with the hinged Lewmar units. I'd go out and measure mine but I'm not sure where you measure - the frame or the glass? Anyhow I only had to cut a small sliver of the width (<1/4") of the opening to install the Lewmars. Only aggravation was the screws they supplied were too long and I paid a small fortune (relatively speaking) for shorter stainless metric ones.

Hi Patrick,

I thought someone would have supplied the measurements to you by now. I haven't been to my boat to measure the portlight in the head, but I'll pass on the measurement I made a couple of months ago when I was measuring the windows for curtains.

My measurement for the head portlight is 16" X 7 1/2" ... since I was measuring to make curtains, (1) I'm sure I measured the outside of the portlight frame, and (2) the measurement isn't exact (it is probably within 1/4" though).

Thanks, that makes it a lewmar size 2 portlight to fit the area most likely and CD used to sell them for $125 bucks! What a deal, now they no longer sell them. The Sailnet price is $213 ea.! and I just can't spend that right now. Thank God they are not leaking yet, well see what I do then, I guess. I have been looking into removing the frames and doing the glazing upgrade (CD) and sending the frames to a shop to chrome (no one in my area will anodize them, but they will sandblast, nickel plate, then chrome for $250-300 for all six), not sure I'm going to do that, these are niceties that are moving way down the list in lew of getting the bottom and keel fixed up, ugh!! it's so much work for our sailing pleasure!

My neighbor owns a plating company and did a wonderful job re-anodizing my frames - you're welcome to UPS them to me if you can't find anyone locally.

OJ, what did your friend charge you? I'd really rather have them reanodized, I like the look of the boat the way it came and chrome sounds like it might be too garish and troublesome. The frames don't weigh much and break down so well that it shouldn't cost much to send them UPS. THANKS!
