Missed all of last year and most of the year before with a broken headstay plus other associated misgivings. But, just bought a new, well, newer CAT25 and will hopefully go SPLASH!!!! in a few weeks. And for Val, I went from a swing to a wing....Can't beleive it myself!!!!

Now for the question: How does one get the old painted name off the side of the boat???????


Formerly CAT25 1959....can't remember the new number but its in the 5200's I think

I believe that there was some discussion in the past about oven cleaner working well and not damaging the gelcoat.

I have buffed a name off of a boat with compound and a high speed buffer once and I will never do it that way again.

Hopefully someone will be able to confirm the oven cleaner idea, or you can check the previous threads.

The problem I've observed with removing painted on names is that even with a sucessful removal the gelcoat bears a shadow of the former name. At least that was the case with the last hull I removed a name from. It is especially noticeable when removing a name from a colored hull. I've since preferred painting the name on a throwable horseshoe. Eliminates the problem, but usually a remedy produces another problem. Haven't encountered it yet.
