Bottom job $$

I need to redo the bottom paint on Noeta next month, a job I don't look forward to doing. I called around today and was quoted $500-600 to have the boat hauled and painted. And extra $25/ day if I want to do any other work while it's out. Thinking back to the other bottom painting jobs I've done, this sounds like a deal. Think I'll drop her off and let the yard do the job...

Wow Doug! It costs us $300 just to haul out and then splash...I'd say $600 was a steal if their work is even halfway decent!

This is one of the reasons I like dry storage. I save enough by not having to do bottom paint to pay for the dry storage!

Doug have you tried Hylebos or is that who gave you the quote. Will the job just be painting over the old paint ??? Its really easy to do that yourself. Im here if you need a hand. The price is good for having them do it if they are using good paint. Haul out round trip was about 250 say 150 for paint and suplies and 200 for labor sounds goood to me. If you decide to do it yourself give me a call. Overcoating only takes 1 day of yard time. On a three day weekend they should not charge for the 3rd day.

The boat yard near me said they charge $65 per foot. 25 feet * 65 is $1625. I don't know if that included sanding the old stuff off or not. Sounds a bit high for me if they are just painting over the old stuff.

My yard is Spry Marine in Iuka MS. (Tennessee River)
They charge $150 to haul and $150 to drop back in..plus $25 a day storage. And let me do all the work (Still blue from bottom paint dust today). Should be relaunching by middle of next week.

Rick, I understand that! I've been red from dust for two days now and I'm done sanding, thank God! I'm back at the boat to fix a crack, install transducers, fill blisters that I've ground out., etc.

My marina doesn't charge anything for the use of the yard, electricity or water but has very strict rules about the usage. There is no one around these parts that does bottom jobs. Especially if you happen to mention it's a sailboat, they run away screaming. I guess most folks around here have power boats on trailers.

The last time I did find someone who would do this work, five years ago, they quoted me $300-$500 for labor only, supplies extra.

So far I've spent about $600 for the trailer rent, paint, supplies and lot's of parts from Catalina Direct. But it's back breaking work, I'll tell you and I'm not sure about doing it again. But give me a few years and I'm sure I'll forget the pain and remember how great my boat will be once I splash again! I would definitely fanagle someone to help or hire someone to help next time, just too much to do for one person and we only have 25 foot boats!!!
