The "Captain's Lounge" live chat feature of the web site does not seem to be working. Would anybody miss it if we took this off?

We are trying to save the national association some $. You don't realize it but this site is actually spread over two hosts - each charging a monthly fee. We are in the process of eliminating one of them to save your money.

Forgive us if some of the features of the web page change or are unavailable during the change over.

I've never even tried to use the "Captain's Lounge". If it disappeared, I wouldn't miss it.

I logged onto it 3 or 4 times and never found anyone there, so I don't think anyone has been using it.

I've looked a few times but never found anyone logged on it. I certainly am in favor of dropping it.

Like the others. I've never used it. It would not bother me if it was gone.

Any chance of replacing it with a permanent, easily accessable, indexed tech manual authored by the forum members? I know I'd be more inclined to post maintenance related photos and verbiage if they wouldn't disappear into cyberspace after 6 months . . .

I dropped in the chat room a couple of times but the lights were out and no one was home. No objections to dropping it.

CJ, the indexed tech manual is a good idea, let me think for a while about how to do it.

The only time I heard of it being used was some time back when a few members made a "schedule" to chat there. No big loss.

Since a few suggestions towards new ideas / features were offered above, would a "video library" be something of interest or help to the group? I think I have my video on Heavy Weather Sailing and Beowulf pretty well memorized and I'm guessing many of you have videos gathering dust too. If this static reserve of information could be organized, with some sort of easy, cost of mailing only distribution, it could be quite a resource. I haven't really thought through any of the logistics, but thought I'd see if the base idea has merit. Thanks. Todd Frye

JimB,

I for one would much rather donate one high quality post including photos and a comprehensive explanation once than re-write much scaled down versions of the same answer over and again . . .

Maybe it's just a matter of inserting a link on this forum to something like the existing tech section - but allowing multiple people to post under the same topic.

Let's let computers do (at least in part) what they were designed to do - minimize and/or eliminate dull, mundane and repetitive tasks!

Whew! I feel better now!

I agree that the "captain's Lounge" is an unnecessary feature of our group. It could be eliminated and not missed.

As Paul points out, one time a couple of years ago there was an effort, maybe on LI, to get something started, but I guess it never got off the ground.

Besides, this works for a chat room for anyone who wants, and could be "live" by refreshing" fairly frequently.
