Hi Man,

I haven't been able to see the video you shot. but wanted to ask what kind of camera you were using.

We just bought a canon digital camcorder. I can make AVI's and analog movies.

My question is. How long can the movies be? Is the length only determined by the storage on the card?

I hope I can figure out how to see the video you shot. I'm on a Windows 98 DELL. I wonder if I need a newer version of the microsoft viewer.

The camcorder is a Canon ntsc ZR25 mc. It takes digital movies onto a tape and also still shots can be put on a card. The TDK tape says SP/60, LP/90. I built this barebones computer so I could hook the camcorder up to a firewire and download movies. But I do need a better program than Win Movie Maker.

I got that error message about "current form" on the movie too, but the second time it played. Unfortunately I'm not a computer wizard. I running Win XP 2002 and when I click on the file Windows Media Player pops up and plays it.

Paul... Windows 98 is probably limited in its ability to play the movies...though Realplayer might do it for you under Win 98.

XP offers a player which has been upgraded a couple of itterations. XP also includes a video maker which can make video clips from a video input port such as a firewire from the camcorder. Other ports are a video card with video input or an Intel camera with the video input port.

Once a segment of video is imported.... the maker offers the ability to look at frames and select a segment which of course becomes called a clip. An example of the storage requirements is that a 6 minute video consumes 89 megs of storage... for this reason, short clips of a minute are offered with lower resolution for around .9 megs with higher resolution eating up much more.

There are other movie makers which are superior to the Windows Version of course that will handle other formats which compress better and produce better quality clips. I downloaded a shareware version that opened for a 30 day trial that would handle the AVI format... but I didn't stick with it and don't recall what it was... think its cost was about $75. A search should produce shareware versions or check out the Real Player version... some might work with Win 98.

A big problem is a personal web site with 5-10 megs of space doesn't offer room for movie clips of any size and number.

We have the Canon ZR70. It looks just like your camera.
