Great site for R&R, btw! You have tons of great mods and have given me a few ideas, consequentially lengthening my list, ugh! ;)

I noticed on your site your loose footed main. Did you have the main modified by sail loft? it looks like the bolt rope is still in place. While bending on my main after the bottom job, I noticed that my new main has an outhaul "slide" and then the bolt rope. I was wondering if I could just thread the slide and pin the tack at the gooseneck and acheive a, sorta, loose footed feeling. Is this possible? is this how you do it? How does it affect flaking the sail?

Speaking of that, I may have to figure out a variation of your sail ties system.

Anyway, thanks! R&R looks like a well outfitted, beautiful boat and an example of why we all love to sail these little boats!

Yes, the 250 has a metal reinforced slug near the clew which seems to do fine with loose footing.

The bolt rope really doesn't affect the sail shape adversely when doing so.

Lacking a sail slug at the clew, some have bound a slug to the clew or simply rounded the boom with a loop of line. If adding a slug... go with a metal reinforced.

Loose footing doesn't affect sail flaking much. I usually take up the outhaul when securing the sail.

I just bent on my new to me UK loose footed main. The slug at the clew is about two inches long and looks like a mini torpedo.

That's what my slug at the clew looks like and it's about three inches in front of the clew, so I bet it will work. I'm about to head down to the boat tomorrow for a long weekend and hope to try it out! Thanks!

I'm so glad I noticed your loose footed main on your site. I had my main loose footed for the race on Sunday and came in 2nd place. That's the first time I've ever raced. I think this set up was ideal for the light to moderate winds we experienced and I especially love how easy it is to "read" you main! Thanks for showing us that on your site!!!

The PO of my boat put on a loose footed main, and it has served me well on this boat.
