I'm on a lake with a rock bottom and a steep fall off. What's the best and least expensive anchor? I've been told locally that I'll need a 25# to hold in the mountain winds we get.
Without a doubt the Bruce or knock off Simpson Lawrence claw is the best on a rocky bottom. A 16 pounder with 10-20 feet of chain will hold a 25 nicely. You will need to install a bow roller since they don't store easily. A trick I've used in a good blow is to hang a small mushroom anchor on the rode and let it slide down to the chain to help keep as horizontal an angle as possible.
The claw sets and resets easily and fits on the bow roller. I do have to move the anchor off the roller when I launch and retrieve my boat.
