I need to replace the two large front plexiglas windows on my boat. I can't find them listed in their catalog, does anyone know if Catalina Direct sells replacements? I do not have the means to measure and cut a new one myself.
This is a great site; after a day at the office it's nice to unwind by spending a few minutes reading the days post and looking at the pictures. The Admiral does't understand, but it is the next best thing to being on the boat. I bet she is just jealous of the love affair, you know a man and his boat.
I took mine out also, and took it to a glass dealer. He cut the Plexiglass for me and I did all of them at the same time. I think he charged me around 50 per window.
Jim: Keep me posted on your window replacement project. I too have an 89 WK that needs some window replacement. I believe that I will have a local plastics company supply me with the raw plexiglass to make the new windows, but what I am really interested in is what sealer to use to mount the new ones and how to make a neat job out of it. The last thing I want is the sealer smeared over the whole boat! Bruce Ebling 89 WK "Selah"
3M has a whole host of materials that will work well on the later style windows, but in particular they have a butyl like caulk material that comes on a roll in a ribbon profile. Putting it on is far, far easier than finding it though, unfortunately. I'd suggest starting at customer service at the factory and they'll direct you from there. You might even be able to acquire a free sample from the local 3M rep - but I didn't tell you that <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> .
they do sell them, if you install them yourself, make sure you use a good sealant around the window. i get a small bit of moisture through mine, i never replaced them and beleive them to be stock but i guess after some time, water will creep in.
I found the butyl caulk tape at the local RV dealer. It was relatively easy to use and so far seems water tight. It is quite 'gummy' and the excess that oozes out can be easily trimmed up.
