hey all.. I need to install a puck style dransducer and replace the one i have. I was wondering what kind of caulk i should use to rebed the through hull..
I did the same thing two years ago. I would recommend 3M 4200 (definitely NOT 5200). LifeCaulk is also fine for that application. Let the caulk skin over before you bed the transducer, it will seat more securely that way. Since you (or a later owner of your indestructible Catalina 25) may need to replace the transducer at some point (they do wear out or go bad), it is important to use a bedding compound that will NOT make it a permanent part of the hull.
3M 4200. I would not use life caulk below the waterline it just doesnt last as well. when you place the unit through the hull bed both sides. Do NOT tighten the seating flange all the way. Let the 4200 set up for a day if you can and do a final tighten the next day. This lets a seal form and works a lot better than squeezing out all of the 4200 on the first go. 4200 shrinks a little as it cures.
