In a phrf race, when the adjusted times make for a tie, what happens? We use a high point system for our Wednesday Night Series and two boats adjusted to a tie for third, across after two other boats out of 17. Would they each get a 15? A 14.5? A 13?
I would think that they both get a 15, and the 4th boat over gets a 13. Or you could calculate the times to as many decimal places as needed to break the tie. Derek
I'd agree with Derek. But the Race Committee ought to define how ties will be broken. If they haven't, then now would be the time to address the question.

Usually, tied boats would be given a single score, in your case both threes and there wouldn't be a four. (low point scoring, take dereks example if your not using low point, its the same just reversed) In a single race regatta, you both get a third place prize. If its a series, which you mention it is, then its your total added together for each race. If after the end of the series, you still still have a tie, then there are a number of different things they can do, but they should all be in the sailing instructions given out at the beginning of the year. Usually they add up the number of firsts, if still tied, the seconds, all the way down. Then they start throwing out races, or look back to see who had the most recent first.
