OK, I have to do a little reair to one of my stanchions. I was going to take it off yesterday, I saw there was easy access to the two innermost nuts inside the boat. The outer two are inside the interior wall. Are these held by a captive nut, or will the nuts and washers fall when removed. I have not cut any ports in the wall and am not looking forward to doing so. Or will that give me access to some unused storage?
If anyone could reply with an answer I am heading out to the lake this afternoon adn would like to tackle the problem. If not I have a plugged head to contend with.<img src=icon_smile_dead.gif border=0 align=middle>

Which stanchion are you working on? I checked mine and all the nuts are accessible-two in front of the upside down ridge and two behind. But I have an '82. Might be a different configuration.

As to the storage, I forgot I had these pics on the web.

This is what I did with mine. It required making a plywood shelf so stuff wouldn't just fall down into the lower areas. Then I lined it with vinyl (naugahyde-type stuff) and found some edging trim material to cover the edges of the holes.

When I removed and rebedded all six of the stanchions on my 1979 C-25 swing keel dinette model, all the fasteners were readily accessable from the cabin area.

I'm pretty sure they're all accessable on my '85.

OK, I never said I was that smart. I checked again and found the nuts. They were hidding behind the lip I guess that joins deck to hull.<img src=icon_smile_blush.gif border=0 align=middle>
