ANY SUGGESTIONS ON A TOP. LOOKING IN THE CAT. DIRECT BOOK AND THEY HAVE TWO TYPES. ONE IS SUNBRELLA AND THE OTHER IS "SHARKSKIN". ACCORDING TO THE BOOK THE SHARKSKIN DOESN'T STRECH AS MUCH AS SUNBRELLA FABRIC. PROS AND CONS WOULD BE HELPFUL IN MAKING A DECISION. ANY OTHER INPUT WOULD BE APPRECIATED. JOHN ON MS ACHSA #77
My Bimini is made of the sharkskin material. Have had it for 5 seasons and it is up all the time, year around. Shade in the summer and cover for the winter here in California. The material is not as heavy in texture or feel as Sunbrella, but it certainly has performed well.

If I had the money (hehehe), I would have gotten the Sunbrella model with the Stainless Steel tubing....alas, the sharkskin has worked fine on mine as well for the last three plus years. The zip-up cover for the sharkskin, however, is pure junk as it marks up the cabin top and leaves bluish streaks all over (which are hard to remove).
i too have the sharkskin. and after three years still looks good. i haven't had any problems with the cover. the only area of wear is where the boom has rubbed on the top of the bimini when sailing to windward. only problem with having a tall mast (lower boom).
I too am looking for a bimini, and have had a few questions, and felt that I could get the answer here. I have an 86 tall rig with no bimini in corpus christi, tx. It is plenty hot, and I need some shade. Is a 6 foot bimini about the average size for our boats? And what height is best. I currently am attempting to set up my boom with a mast plate to ride a little higher on the mast to accomodate the bimini, and sail reefed for the summer months. I know this has been asked before, but I did not see a recommendation for height from the cockpit sides. thanks in advance. Dan 86 tall rig, fin keel (no name yet!)
i've never been a fan of that type of setup. it is nice and comfortable when cruising under power but i have felt, in other boats i have sailed, that hey block the view of the main. i'm constantly watching my sails making sure the right roundness etc. anything hindering the view would be pretty annoying to me.
