After a few missteps I'll answer my own question. The Impeller changed in 2000 from one that uses a key to one with a flat side on the shaft. I also discovered that Honda dealers at least in SE MA dint have thers inventories in order (likely Hondas fault in that the part numbers in there computer parts and inventory systems match the numbers on the parts only ocasionally. Othe than that the replacment was rather easy after realizing that you just need to disconnect the shift linkage along the back side of the shaft first.
