Frank---I saw somewhere on this forum a table that had a rail around it. Might keep things off the cabin sole in a blow. Nothing will work in a knockdown.
Frank, We mounted an eyestrap at each end of the storage shelf (above the settee) and ran a shock cord between them - maybe 5" above the shelf (and ~3" above the pinrail.)
A "salty" term for a rail like that is "fiddle". Many seagoing boats have a full set of removable fiddles that can be arranged to divide the table into various compartments to hold the dishes, cups, etc. in place while serving dinner in a seaway.
Since most of us won't be trying to serve dinner whilst underway... we probably don't need them... table fiddles would make an interesting addition to the interior though.

But where would you put it?

Frank,
quote:
Anyone have any ideas of securing these [dishes, etc.] while under way? And yes my storage bins are full to capacity.

I store my tableware in the upper drawer under the galley sink. For pots, pans, etc. I built a comparment into the port cockpit locker ("the dumpster") area just aft of the galley countertop. That compartment extends from the cockpit foot well to the hull liner against the topsides, from the cockpit seat down to about the level of the cockpit sole, and back about as far as I care to reach with my arm. (Your arm reach may vary.) This holds an enormous collection of pans and even some containers of food on longer trips. It's also handy for tall containers of unrefrigerated condiments. It can get a bit dark in there; I use a flashlight at night to see the rear-most items. A movable fore&aft partition would be helpful (spring-loaded? peg holes?) to keep things quiet and organized when the boat tacks.
