on saturday i sailed gypsy from herring bay, through napps narrows then around tilghman and back to herring bay. WOW! first REAL cruise for gypsy. she loved it! I got off course a few times because i started to sail more for favorable winds than direction. i guess that's what GPS is for. 30 naut miles in 10 hours.

Congratulations! That sounds fun. I'm trying to set up a sail from Galveston, TX to Freeport, TX and back. Been gonna do it for 3 years and haven't done it yet!

Way to go Steve. That might be high on our list of trips to do. We did our first "overnight" this past weekend. We sailed up to the West River and stayed overnight at Hartge's. Had dinner over at Pirates cove and then back to the boat. It was nice of some small town over there to put on a pretty good Fireworks Show for us too! (Of course then Mother Nature got into the act, quite a Thunder and Lightning show) The one scary thing that happened on our way up the Bay on Saturday....we were making a cut across to get a better track into the channel and we spot about 15 BIG speedboats coming at us! They flew by us on all sides and as soon as that group was gone, we spotted another and another. I'd say there were about 50-60 of them in all! I guess they were doing a poker run or something. While it was fairly uncomfortable, there was only one boat that really got me mad. This one guy went by about 5 feet in front of us doing what I would guess was at least 40 in his big cigarette boat. That was not fun. He did give a really nice wave when he got by, so I guess at least he must have seen us.

Kirk, you can actually report that kind of stuff. they are not supposed to be that close. i think we all need to teach the motor boaters out there a little sophistication. i try to stay off the water on big "power boat days" the 4th, memorial day weekend, when budweiser is on sale, etc.

We were out in Herring Bay about the same time Saturday. Kind of terrifying seeing about 25-35 wide open cigarette boats bearing down on you. Great sailing this weekend on the bay. Good going on both you two and your cruises - We aren't quite up to speed on crusing yet - still getting used to the boat and bay sailing.
