Hello All,

I never got the handle to my trailer winch from the PO, and it's a pain to crank with the replacement I got from WM. I've got a replacement handle on order, but it is on back order with no ETA. Can anyone tell me what I need if I were to buy an entire new winch? Do I need a winch with a 6,000 pound weight capacity? The largest one I saw at West Marine only had a weight capacity of 2,600 pounds. The winch that came with the boat is called The Fulton, No.590 NO BRAKE.

Thanks for your insight.

Here's a 3200 lb 'Marine' model from Northern Tool. Should have plenty of whoopie.

Ben,
To paraphrase a famous line, "We don need no stinkin winches."

My trailer never had one and I don't see the need to get one. And I do back in my fin keel trailer a bunch of times per season. I take a nice cheep line I got at home depot run it from a cleat on the stern. The line then goes on the outside of the boat around the front, catch the post where a winch goes, then back to the jib sheet winch on the other side. Someone else needs to back the trailer in for you and help move you up on the trailer, set your line and tighten away. I have had less troubles loading the cat 25 at 4500lbs + than I ever did loading the old Santana 21, 1400 lbs. I have never gotten wet and the boat always sits pretty.

Thanks for the input, guys. I think I'm going to get a new winch after all. I appreciate you innovative method, Matt, but I think I need to apply the KISS principle to this.
