My home computer got hit, hard, four times last night. Of course, I have been putting off renewing my McAfee Updater subscription.
Also, my tech guys at work recommend a firewall even if you use a dial up connection (that was new to me), but they say the hackers are now finding ways to tunnel through the ISPs' firewalls, and that makes dial up users' computers vulnerable to being taken over.

I use a free firewall on both of my computers. Takes a little setting up but can be downloaded from www.zonelabs.com. They also have upgradable firewalls...but the free one has worked well for me.
I hear this one is sneaking under the various firewalls using a vulnerability in Windows. Better check the MS site (or Symantec), especially if you're on broadband. MS has patches for the vulnerable versions of Windows, but you should scan your system with Symantec's special exterminator first.
BTW, Windows 2000 and XP are vulnerable--95, 98, and ME are not.

This is a quote from Symatech: “Based on the number of submissions received from customers and based on information from the Symantec's DeepSight Threat Management System, Symantec Security Response has upgraded this threat to a Category 4 from a Category 3 threat.” Something like Armstrong's Yellow Orange thing. Go to the Symantec page on the Blaster Worm Virus. Good luck and back up often. It's not "IF" your hard drive will crash it's "WHEN".

ARRRRRGH...Microsoft's cure is worse than the disease! The XP Service Pack 1 is an absolute PITA. Four hours of downloading, over 30 MB, and then their server crashes, so start over. I hate Microsoft!!!
Thanks for letting me vent.

I was infected by this virus. Maybe penicillin will help. It worked before. Fortunately I have a fibre optic connection so the download from Bill Gates didn't take but an hour. But now my screen saver (an aquarium with fish that swim) doesn't work, my moniter just goes blank. Anybody know how to fix that? I'm going to go by the computer store and buy all the latest Norton utilities, and firewalls, and virus stops and whatever else they h ave, as my virus subscription has expired. Maybe a shot of penecillin?
Gee, guys, I don't have this problem with any of my Macintoshes. . . .
I just bought the new G4 12" powerbook. It's beautiful and lightning fast and elegant. Reads and writes all Windows files, and no one writes viruses for Macs. Reads and burns DVDs and CDs. I've been watching movies, in stereo, on my lap.
