Well here goes. Am buying a new, 2003 WK 250 from an outfit in Bakersfield and want to know many things. I'm a novice to Catalinas, though not new to sailing and would like to set it up with a variety of necessary equipment to allow us to "Win"races(I have to chuckle) in the High Sierra Regatta at Huntington Lake, CA and sail in San Francisco, Monterey, So. Cal bays during the fall, winter, and spring. I have a few ideas, but would really like to hear from some expert/veteran sailors as to what you would put on a new boat where you in my shoes. Obviously cost is a factor, but a wish list could be prioritized and worked on for the next few years. Any responses would be greatly appreciated. Am enjoying the forum immensly and already plan to use Arlyn's motor/rudder soft connection. thanks
I agree with Steve Milby about not going spinnaker... but rather relying on a whisker pole for use with the headsail. If racing is a priority... then think light. A 70 lb motor compared to a 110 for example.
Taking the motor off for racing makes sense. Using a wisker pole for wing and wing, keeping the 110 jig in place as far out as possible seems reasonable. Has anyone used a spinniker with the 250 wk, and is a 130 jib on a 250wk a more powerful or a better balance with the wk? I appreciate the responses.
