I've been dry-slipping my boat all year. There is a mast-up boat yard really close to the ramp that allows me to do this. Anyway, it seems hit and miss for to retrieve the boat properly so the swing keel, when I crank it down, is resting in the tray as designed. About half the time when I pull the boat up the ramp and lower the keel, the boat is just bit off center putting the keel just to the left or right of the tray when lowered. In the past I haven't concerned myself too much with this, since I only go a short distance to and from the ramp, but this weekend I'm hauling Adventurous 2 1/2 hours to Cleveland (Vermillion, really, my wing keel conversion kit finally arrived! Whahoo!!!).
Obviously I need to be sure the boat is centered properly on the trailer before hauling the boat such a distance. Has anyone experienced the same problem? I'm thinking maybe when I'm retrieving the boat my trailer is backed too far down the ramp. Can anyone share their thoughts with me?
i dry store also. i added plywood scabbed on to the trailer. i put two pieces on each side of the keel and bolted them together. the height is sbout half the distance between the hull and trailer 10 inches +/-. i slanted them from top to a narrower bottom so when i pull out of the ramp the boat centers itself on the keel roller. when removing the boat from the water if the boat is not in the wedges i built the boat stops short of going on the trailer.ijust back up and move from one side tothe other until it comes forward. it's a cheap solution and is very effective.
I have only put the boat on the trailer three times, but with my rollers she never misses. Have we got different trailers? Mine is an EZloader tandem with rollers. Fits every time in a nuniverse of three.
