Well, Orion is back i her slip. New winch, handle, wire, hose, clamps, turning ball, bottom paint, and hull compound and wax. Right on a grand, with a discount for the Venice Sailing Squadron that just about paid the tax. Three hours actual charge for the keel work. I find that the keel is much easier to raise now. As an experiment I cranked it up with the old handle. I would say that the new easier outcome is about sixty-five percent due to the new handle and theirty-five due to the new winch. Some of you may recall an older post in which I speculated that a longer winch handle with more mechanical advantage would make the job easier. The new handle is about an inch longer than the original, and much more robust. My old handle is available if anybody needs it, you pay postage, I had cleaned it up and painted it (sort of a sickly green color in a can I had around). I am ver pleased with the whole job. Now for some sailing!!!!God Bless, ron srsk Orion #2343 in SW FL

Ron, Glad to hear the job went so well. Price is more reasonable than I got here in Sarasota. Blackburn point is only about nine miles south. I think I'll try down there next time.
