I rang up Catalina Direct to find a replacement for the stanchion that snapped due to my big belly leaning on it.They told me Catalina never made angled single stanchions for the C25.(see photo) I don't think the PO replaced all six singles, maybe he did. I would like to replace with the same kind, new or used. Any ideas? Thanks for the help.
I'd speculate that all your stanchions had been badly bent by some "event" in the past... or perhaps deliberately bent by a previous owner (for reasons unknown). I'd doubt you'll find any replacements to match that bend.
Bending tubing in that fashion weakens it dramatically and probably explains why it broke.
Since the stanchions are in a weakened state and are part of the boats safety equipment, I'd advocate replacing them as soon as your budget allows.
Garhauer marine sells stanchions and I think they were the OEM (original equiment mfg) on C25 rails. I'd give them a go.
We had an "aacident" last year when another member of a group ran into our starboard side and bent two of the stanchions, a standard straight up and the one with the second leg (for larger boats).
Catalina Yachts has them, and I'm sure they're the same height as our old C25. Just call CY parts and they'll get them to you. The price is right, too.
