Silly question, but I have been thinking about this... Has anyone tried putting hammock on their boat while anchored? I was wondering if anyone had tried anything like stringing it up from the bow pulpit to the mast? Do you guys think everything is sturdy enough to hold up someone in a hammock? My guess is that it is - just wondering if anyone had tried it and it doesn't fit or something?

I think a short hammock would be better supported from one end of the boom to the other, and you have more hanging space with the hatch slid open. I think you'd be dragging if you did it in the bow. Haven't tried either just a WAG.
We have a net type hammock that we have used on the foredeck. Before we put on the furler and used hank on sails, we would attach one end to the jib halyard which was attached to the forestay and the other end to the mast at the spinaker pole fitting. It worked OK for the kids but left a heck of a waffle pattern on their back sides.
I have seen the canvas suspention chairs. Held up by the jib halyard and a line to the forward stay. looked like a nice set up. I have also seen a hammock set up with the boom and spinaker pole. You can do just about whatever you can imagine.
Well, I got a nylon hammock for Christmas from my wife this year and finally got a chance to test it this weekend when I went down to put on the sails and our new outboard to get the boat ready since it is finally getting warm. The hammock works like a charm stringing it from the whisker pole attachment to a rope wrapped around the forestay (sail too). It was so comfortable that I think it will be hard to leave the slip - but I guess it will be that much more comforatable at anchor. If anyone is interested the hammock balls up into a little ball in a built-in pocket and I guess you could use it as a spinnaker in a bind (only kidding) - the company is Eagles Nest Outfitters out of Asheville, NC - http://www.eaglesnestoutfit.com
Jared, what a great idea! I have always wondered if slinging a hammock anywhere would work. I do wonder 2 things about your setup with the hammock: 1) Is the forestay strong enough to support an end of this? 2) Does the line wrapped around the sail hurt the sail? It seems like it could really crimp and pinch the sail and I wondered if yours did and if it did any harm. Thanks!
I rigged a hammock just like in your picture. Worked GREAT while at anchor!! What was strange though was when a motorboat came by and his wake started Confetti rolling (we've all been there, right?). The effect was the boat was rolling but I was not, at least initially!! Kind of a nice ride!!
