Any San Diego c25 or c250 owners interested in starting (restarting?) a fleet in Mission Bay or San Diego Bay? Currently we've got Jim Baumgart and myself at Marina Village Marina. Nothing fancy, all low-key stuff. Meetings? Right...just meet on the dock and go sailing and maybe some light racing , if there is such a thing.
Aw $@%#$@, I somehow screwed up my thumbnail while editing my profile....maybe try to fix it tomorrow night.
I FIXED IT!!! THERE IS HOPE....

I'm beginning to think you and computers are a dangerous mix ...
If you add one [ and the beginning of your thumbnail URL and another ] at the end of the URL, that should fix it. Somehow the opening bracket before "img]" was deleted, as was the last bracket after "[/img" ...
Glad to hear of your interest in forming a fleet in San Diego.
If there is anything I can do, please feel free to contact me. One of the interests I have and plan to work on is fleet development. Clif ask me to coordinate this area of Association business, and I look forward to working with fleets in their development work, and in fulfilling their mission of making their c25/250 experience better for their members. Or, with fleets that are interested in redeveloping their fleets.

Gary, You go, guy. We started 1 1/2 years ago trying to form a group here in the Portland area. I got a few names of local guys on this forum, contacted them and bugged 'em. Then, I got into the racing scene and found couple more owners who were racing as crew on other boats. I talk to every C-25 guy I see, leave letters on C-25s that I see on docks. Eventually, I went to the local Cat dealer and got names of recent purchasers of boats, new and used and contacted them about their interest. Some are not interested, but about 1/2 are....Most are not serious racers, at least a first, so cruising ideas work well. Gradually, a number have now gotten an interest in, and confidence in, racing a bit, especially One Design.
Last summer two different groups from our fleet went on week long, or longer, cruises to the San Juan Islands. We only have a "meeting" now and then, when we want to plan something, or during the winter to just "get together", socialize, share photos and ideas/projects, etc. I was recently embarrassed to tell Clif that we are not operating with an official "charter" of rules/etc. I am not much for bureaocracy (sp?), but some few operating "rules" may be forth-coming--like how to impeach the fleet captain, etc. I have offered the baton to others, but no one else has reached for it yet......
We do all correspondance through email. We have helped each other launch and load, with projects, etc. It's been great. We now have 12 boats on our email list. A few are rarely heard from, but no one has asked to be removed from the list, and more are getting involved all the time. We have no local dues....etc.. At least 10 of us. including a few spice (read plural of spouse) are getting together on Saturday morning at a deli to finalize our plans to submit a proposal to the Association to host a National event.
Plug away......"If you build it, they will come....."
Gary B. has been there and developed the fleet in Portland. Listen to his advise, and go and do likewise.
On the thread I started today, I shared some ideas with Mike from Phx about starting a fleet, and that may add to your information. Once I get the fleet organization data, I'll get that to you.
The main thing is getting others who are interested, and are members of the National Association to join your beginning fleet. Send me that information, names and boats, etc. And I will verify that your members are Association members and place your request on the agenda for the next meeting of the officers.
I think it is also good to plan fleet activities - racing, cruising rondevues (sp), skill regattas, etc. It is the program that your fleet members will find value in their membership.
Please keep me posted of what you are doing and let me know how I can help you. Once I have the membership data base, I sort by San Diego and give you a list of c25/250 owners in your area. That should help with your recruiting.
Thanks for all your very experienced suggestions. We (Jim and I so far) are THE San Diego fleet for now. Anyone know what our fleet number would be? Do I make one up? Was there ever a fleet here? Jim, I have checked their site before and had some interest in doing the same. Maybe use them to find other 25s/250s in the area? Maybe need to make up a flyer to put on boats at our marina? Will do something Friday evening with this. Coming down to the boat to sail on Saturday in the "mild" San Diego winter. YES!!!!!! I can't remember what I did to screw up the thumbnail. Will experiment here shortly and try to resurrect it. [....AND THIS ONE, TOO!!!] I used to be a part of the Oceanside C22 fleet several years ago but it was too much "business". LOW KEY is the way to go.
Several of us in local Fleet 94 are also members of the All Catalina group on the Columbia. It's a great contact source for other 25/250 owners. Our All Cat group is primarily cruising related, but several Cats now race. The local 30'ers are now going at it; they were 22 owners, crewed on 25s and now race in their own one design. Cool. I recommend getting hooked up with as many local groups you can afford to join. Networking is half the battle of organizing a fleet.
