Ok, I finally did it, got the four windows recut for the cabin of my 86 C25. (about 95 bucks for a great job.) I have a couple of questions regarding the sealing. When I pulled the old ones off, there was a rubber gasget that is relatatively intact on three of windows. On the fourth there was no rubber gasget. Is it better to use a sealant on the fiberglass directly, or replace the gasgets if possible. Is it possible to use a sealant on the rubber that is intact and have the sealant fillin the gaps? Is life seal? a good sealant. I got a number of opinions and they were all different. I have also seen a number of different thoughts here as well. Thanks in advance. The new windows will look great when installed! dan

Hmmm...

1) You might try some "putty tape" as commonly used to bed aluminum windows in RV's.
2) Go with 3M "101" or "Lifeseal"

I use both of these sealants but prefer 101 for anything below the waterline.
(Actually I guess I prefer 101 in general).

My dealer rebeds them with 5200. A lot of people feel it is dangerously strong but windows are a place where you can cut through it if you need to remove it, you just use a wire.

The Catalina Factory installs the OEM flush mount windows with an industrial silicone-based sealant/adhesive that is intended for bedding large plate-glass windows and curtainwall panels on office buildings. Catalina Direct sells this stuff in 14-ounce cartridges for around $15.00. It's not marketed specifically as a Marine sealant by the manufacturer, but if the Catalina Factory is using it, they must think it's suitable for use on the boats they build.

I have not been able to determine everything Catalina Direct Sells. When I ordered the latest items from CD they said they included the latest updates but I keep reading on the forum about things I didn't know they offer. I know I can call with questions but does anyone know of a comprehensive listing or catalog?

Sometimes the gold is hidden in the price lists, but you are right, there seems to be a lot of stuff that is not in the book.

Verify that what you order/purchase is compatible with the material your new windows are made of . . .
