I have a Guest Model 2608 battery charger. The inline fuse got completely corroded (why??) and had to be cut out. Does anyone know what size this fuse is? And could the charger be safely used without it? (The charger is never on unless I'm there).
I have e-m'd Guest twice over the last 10 days and not received a reply - their customer service sucks!
BTW - I am more elctrically challenged than even Buzz!!

I would call West Marine or where you purchased the charger and ask what size replacement fuse is needed. I wouldn't run the charger without the fuse.

Derek, under no circumstances would I run the charger without the fuse guard. I could not find the Guest 2608 in my WM catalog only 2607 and 2610 both are 6.0 amp ouptut chargers, so I would assume yours is the same. Rule of thumb for DC fusing is 1.5 x max. amp output. This would equal a 9 amp fuse so go 10, since 9 is not available as far as I know. This will protect your charger while you find out form The Evil Empire what it really suppose to be. I would also acquire some dielectric grease and coat the fuse holder and fuse before powering up. Be sure an coat the the solder joints before you heat shrink them also. Corrosion is the result of moisture, and the spring in a inline fuse holder is like a small coil heater which heats up then cools. When you heat and then cool metal in a humid enviornment the result is condensation and hence corrosion of the metal, especially in an inline fuse holder which is designed to keep water out. The reverse is also true, condensation on the inside cannot get out.

The 2608 is a single output rated at 6 amps.
I have the 2610 which has two outputs, each rated at 5 amps. The technical and installation manual for the 2610 recommends a 15 amp inline fuse to the positive side of the battery. You will be safe with a 15amp inline fuse P/N AGX-15 or equivalent.

Derek, Do not know when my next trip to Texas will be since by son and family will be home for Christmas and he is slated to depart for the far east sometime between January and March for a year.
What is the latest word on your Cat trip to Jacksonville?
Wayne's, installation manual for the 2610 specifies that a 15 amp fuse be used, however if yours is single output I would go no higher than 10. Waynes two bank charger @ 5 amp's each equal a 10 amp total output times 1.5 equals 15 amp fuse. The rule applies.
