Yes there is! We didn't get 30 inches, but upper teens. We were at the church parsonage this w/e and one advantage for me is that the church takes care of the major snow removal. First job at the lake house is removing the snow from the driveway and walks. Ugh

!

For me, winter has no socially redeemable value, and why when I retire winter months will be in a warm place, like Florida.

Knowing Sacandaga, I'll bet your second job is to shovel the roof off before it gets wet and heavy. When I was younger my family kept a snowblower on the camp roof at Sacandaga all winter. "Bear" still clearing snow.

Bear,

We are planning on a trip to the Lake House later today. One adgenda item is raking the roof, and getting as much of the ugly white stuff as possible.

The other item is blowing the driveway so that when the rains come, we don't have to deal with the heavy stuff that would result.

BTW. Almost stopped the other day. I was on your side of town, and thought about dropping in. Had a lunch appointment and was starting to crowd it, so I didn't. Never know tho'

Dave,
A snow rake works wonders when removing snow from the covers over sailboats, really eliminates going up on a ladder also. "Bear" on the hard in upstate N.Y.

You would always be welcome at our home. I'm sure you have the address, its also the house with the big sailboat setting in the backyard with a blue cover over it. It would be nice to talk to someone in person about our common interests. We are two houses down from the entrance to Mohonasen school entrance. 2048 Curry Road.

Here in the Midwest we often get the scenario that is playing out as I speak. It rains in the low 30s for a half a day then it sleets and freezes for half a day then it snows for half a day. That means the ice does not really get buried very well and we drive on ice instead of snow. Today they have added 50 mph winds to the forecast. Winter in the Midwest is basically just ugly. Oklahoma is worse, they seldom get the snow, just horrible ice storms.
Last evening I put my 30X20 tarp on my boat. With my tall mast ups front and rear I am able to stand in the cockpit and duckwalk around the rest of the boat. It took a fair amount of work under the tarp to get it in place, (I did it alone). It has been a long time since I did much duck walking. My legs are hurt'n today

Growing up in central California, snow is somthing I have seen in movies or on trips to the mountains. I remember snow two times, once when I was about 4 then as a senior in high school. It has come down a couple other times but pretty much melted as it hit the ground.
Instead we are blessed with something we call Tully Fog, and would sing, "I'm Dreaming of a Grey Christmas". This is a thick patchy fog that can be from ground to about 20 feet. The thickness varies from that high to just hugging the ground. Sometimes the layer will be about 5 feet from the ground. This causes some intersting driving conditions. in a low car you can see under the fog layer quite far. Sometimes you are in thick stuff, but a high truck has a clear view (but who knows what is under the layer). When I say thick it is measured in how many dots in the road you can see, anywhere from 1/2 a dot to 3 or more lines. You adjust driving speeds to meet the requirement. Some people haven't quite gotten this down and you always hear about multi car pile ups. I hate people that drive close behind me in the fog, I like to just be able to see the tail lights of the person infront of me. One time coming home from work I was diverted about 30 miles out of the way because a Semi truck was driving too fast in the fog and ran into a heard of cattle that had gotten onto the road. The CHP told me that there were 27 cows either killed out right or had to be put down because of injury.
No mater if you have fog or snow, please be safe.

Went up to the Lake House yesterday afternoon, to rake the roof (Char's job) and blow out the driveway and extra parking space. Now we had 16-18 inches, and as we drove west on the NYS Thruway it looked the same, as we drove north from Amsterdam (no NY not Holland

the amount of the terrible, ugly white stuff decreased. At our house we had 5-6 inches - not bad considering what Dave had in the east! Maybe only three inches on the roof! And, winter hasn't even started!

Started snowing right after church this morning and they are talking 20-30 inches north and west of Albany. I thought about taking a picture and asking if anyone could my boat

When I moved from Winnipeg to the USA, I tied a snow shovel on the hood and drove south...the first time somebody asked "what the heck is that thing for" I knew I was where I wanted to be! Love you, San Antonio!

No snow here in Jacksonville....yet. It has been a little chilly though. That is the reason I decided to move here. 6 yrs in Maine and 3 yrs in Iceland will do that to a person! Get out and go ski. That is the ONLY thing I miss about the winter. Good luck.

Don, I'll have some churches open here in Central Virginia next year. We get some snow, but not too much. I like the stuff in moderation -- it is the Advent or Lent of reminding me of the feast to come in the spring, summer, and fall. If I could find a place to live where it were October about ten months of the year, I'd go in a heartbeat, so long as there were one month of hot and one month of cold to balance it. I can't imagine living somewhere where there are no seasons (Florida). But that's why God made different climates for different people. I'm born and bred in the mid-Atlantic.

We lived in Houston for a couple of years, and we moved North I realized how much I missed seasons, for 40 inches and it's not even winter

Last year was bad, and now this. Oh well, as you suggest winter is the advent of spring.

BTW, it looks as though we will have at least 3 boats represented on breakfast on the 19th.

We are breakfasting in Richmond area on jan 19th, and in the Jacksonville area on the 20th. atgep, hope you will be able to make the Jacksonville breakfast on the 20th!
