happy to be a new member of the catalina 25/250 assn. just bought a 2001 wk, bringing it from oxnard to long beach this saturday. planning a stopover in marina del rey. this will be the longest sail ever for me (except ensenada, not on my boat). any tips?

A sailboat, a Pacifico and Buffett. Life is good!

Ron, welcome to c25/250 family. We hope you enjoy your 250. I'm sure the learning curve will advance greatly on your trip south from Oxnard. Hope our paths cross some day.

Tell us more. Tiller or wheel? What goodies does it have? Good PO or bad PO? I guess no trailer. Pictures are fun.

Welcome to the Catalina Family, Ron. Not much to offer in the way of advice except to pick your weather window carefully, keep an eye on the clouds, and double check all safety equipment. Might be a good idea to try a few get aquainted runs before the the trip. Being from the New York area the extent of your trip isn't obvious so I'll just wish you the safest possible one and let us know when you reach your destination.

I don't know if you have sailed a C-250 before, but, more than most boats, it likes to sail upright. If you allow her to labor, she'll slow down. If you keep her upright, she'll point high with good speed.

Also, it was recently decided that the national regatta will be held next summer in your neck of the woods. It's usually a lot of fun, and a great chance to talk with other Catalina sailors. You can race your own boat of course, or volunteer to crew for someone else, or just go to watch and to enjoy the socializing.

Don't know how flexible your schedule is, but early reports predict a front coming through that day. Lots of boats make that trip in one day, but a pit stop in MDR could be the ticket especially if the weather isn't the best.

And welcome to the hood! I'm at Holiday Harbor Wilmington, near the Henry Ford Bridge. To which marina in LB are you heading?
