I purchased Catalina 250 WK #713 in November of this year. I am having it stored and commissioned in April of '04. It will be powered by a new 2000 Honda 9.9. After reading about some of the problems with the pre-Powerthrust engines I have some concerns about this engine combination. I will be keeping the boat in a slip and will need to authority in reverse. My dealer said that he could moveme into a 2003 model, but it will cost an additional $800.00. Can anyone with expirience with this engine setup, or knowledge of the subject give me some accurate feedback on whether to make the trade up or not. Thanks for your help.
I have a 2000 Honda 15 hp., which according to the manual is the same engine as the 9.9 with a couple of modifications to get the extra 5.1 hp. (The new designed Honda 9.9 and the 8 hp are now the same and the 15 and 20hp are also the same.) I don't have any problem not having power thrust.
There are other people on this forum that know a lot more about motors than I do and I’m sure they will give you some in put.
Thanks Bryan. This will be the first time that we have had a boat that is going to stay in a slip instead of on a trailer, and I'm a little nervous about getting in and out without making a fool of myself. I think that we shared our last boats in common. We just sold our Hunter 19 wb to get the 250 wk. I'm hoping for a dramatic increase in performance, and a more comfortable berth for my wife and I.

You just made a step up from a Yugo to a Cadillac. My Hunter 19 was a 1995, we bought it new in 1996 and sailed it thru the summer of 1999 then got our C250wk in April of 2000. Definitely the best boat available in its class.I love my C250wk
A couple other items that might interest you.
Check out Alryn's C250 web site he has a soft link system that turns the motor with the rudder. Although I don't use this system other people have and are very happy with it.
