I am making upgrades to my 83/sk/tr this winter. I would like to do the electric upgrade similar to not yet in the tec tips. I havent seen a pannel that resembles his yet Does anyone know where I can find it. Curently replacing keel pin. striping 20 yrs. of bottom paint top sides came up nice after lots of work. Happy hollidays to all. only 3 more months to get wet again
While you're busy picking out an impressive looking electrical control panel, don't forget to take the time to design a quality electrical system to go behind it.
Two cents..... don't forget when you extend wiring runs to increase (decrease) the wire gauge say from 12 to 10. DC voltage drops due to resistance. so the longer the run the larger the wire diameter.
CJB, I talked with Jeff about his panel once. He designed it on paper and had an aluminum plate drilled for the switches and then had the white detailing and image silk screened on. I don't recall if he anodized or painted the panel itself.
With a similar route you could make a very custom job but without access to the machining tools it would not be very cost effective compared to following Earls lead.
Thanks for the info I think I will see if I can find one at the sail expo. I am thinking of putting it on the port side next to the galley. Earl your pannel looks great. I love the one in Not Yet but don't think I want to go to that much trouble designing one. Wiring it is not a problem My brother inlaw is a electrician & I am a carpenter. This is the best site so much information and help, its incredible

Sid, It looks like he just screwed it to the interior hull liner.
Earl: Nice Job! The best solution to the electrical problem I have ever seen. The panel on my '89 sets near the floor under the stairs; near impossible to see or to work on. How did you take care of the hole in the fiberglass left by the old panel?
Thanks for all your generous comments. Here are a few replies;
Bruce, On my boat the old panel is mounted in a plywood bulkhead and there is no hole in the fiberglass. Go to the website listed in my signature and look at the section labeled new countertop. You'll see what I did with the hole .
Sid, Yes, the end panels are just screwed to the liner. As Jeff Foxworthy might say, "You might be a redneck if you can see daylight thru the side of you boat" Don't drill past the hull liner into the hull
Frank R, At fhopper's request I am putting together an article for the Mainsheet with a bit more detail. If that doeosn't make it to publication, I'll post it to my website sometime in the future.
