For those of you desiring more information, I am posting a website made up by Ray Clift, a member of Fleet 94. It gives some basic info. about our local fleet and has links to an informational page and more about the Nationals. Many, many details are still in the planning stages, so things will be added and/or changed slightly. But, visit us! Join us!
The entry/registration form will be posted VERY soon!
wow!!! who picked heaven for a regatta? this place is beautiful. these photos should capture the interest of potential sailors. i am thinking to come out and watch or crew. i only live about 2100 miles away. i guess if i'm taking my bicycle i should be leaving sometime this week. i might take one of herb's jet and leave later.

Oscar Lady Kay 250 WB #618 Sunrise on the Neuse River...
Okay, Oscar, I'll bite! I am a techno-dinosaur and do not get your comments. I am assuming that someone can have access to our scheduled, etc. At this point, I am counting on my ever-so-knowledgeable fleet members to put this all together.
As for the comments about the beautiful spot, yes the Columbia River has beautiful places, mostly outside of our racing area, which tends to be in a largely suburban spot. You may be referring to the photos taken last summer of our cruise to the San Juan Islands. We trailered up, splashed in Anacortes, Washington and were cruising the area E. of Vancouver Island, near the Canadian border. In fact, in numbers of the photos, it would be visible if marked. It would make a TERRIFIC cruise before or after our Nationals in Portland, if one had the time. It is about 5 or 6 hours by vehicle.
Gary I noticed a suggestion of a pot-luck, which might be difficult for us 'uns coming from out of town. We would stop at KFC and get a bucket of Chicken for our contributions. Just a knee jerk reaction
It was just a THUNK....actually, out here on the left coast, the supermarkets have lots of ready to eat stuff from salads to main courses and lots in between. Maybe you Eastern types are all gourmets!
As a non-cook, I have taken many supermarket items to potlucks. Sometimes I don't even try to disguise them in my own container! We are trying to do this "low budget" this year, so if someone can't contribute, we won't run anybody off!!! There is a Safeway about a mile from Tomahawk marina.
Gary, If I can get a little relief on the race course for packing a propane stove/oven, tranlates to extra weight, my wife and I would be happy to contribute to the pot luck.
is a secure, i.e. encrypted, web page. http is a normal page, https is a secure page. I expect that Ray just added the s to his code by accident.
Ed, I assume you are joking, since this is a One Design regatta. The penalty you pay for the extra weight is more than made up for with the good eats! Are you REALLY thinking of coming up? Tha would be SUPER! We are working hard....this should be a very FUN event! LOVE to have you....and lots of other CA boats....
Thanks for all the encouragement. I just confirmed today that we have a committment on July 14 that we can't postpone (the annual Blue Diamond growers lunch). We will be leaving home in Central California in the late afernoon, jumping onto I-5 north and see how far we can get. We hope to get into Portland by mid morning, onto the water by noon. At least that is the plan. The stove will be handy for brewing extra strong coffee to get the blood flowing for the race.
Ed, Keep in close contact with us....we will TRY hard to have some help standing by to help, but it may be getting close to race time. We'll have much more help and info. as time gets closer.
BTW: I don't recall if you are coupling this with a San Juan cruise. If, so, are you experienced at this trip? Need help? Advice? I have been up there a LOT....most years since 1978 or so, but a few times I have sailed up when I had a Tartan 30. I can give you lots of info if you need. Nothing on the website yet, except a few pics of our little fleet trip last summer.......I am SO excited you are coming!
Gary, We did the San Juan trip 3 summers ago. Ken Cave was a great help to us and we are always happy to get more help. There are far too many places to visit in the islands then there is time, so any suggestions to maximize the trip are welcome. We will hopefully be a group of 4. My wife Allyson and possibly two daughters, Copurtney 24 and Kaitlin 16 depending on work and summer school schedules. If the older daughter comes then she and the wife will stay on shore during the races. They are assuming there might be some sort of shopping in Portland?? I have relatives in the Portland area, not sure how much time there will be to hook up with them.
Here is Kaitlin with Yahoo at Reid Harbor, Stewart Island, San Juans with Ken and Betsy Cave's Cape Dory 28 right behind us. Ken caught crabs right off of the floating dock and cooked them on the spot.
Ed, I recognized the float before I scrolled down to see the text! We got into a nice pod of Orca last summer next to Stuart, and sailed with them to around the lighthouse. We were fairly close to 'em for over an hour.
Yeah, I have some favorites I would share, but I don't think maybe email is the way. Maybe we should talk on the phone sometime? Home phone in Battle Ground, WA is 360.687. 2048. I should put something on the website, I guess, but I am too busy right now....and probably will be until April or so!
We will be in touch, I am sure. I would love to share ideas with you.
And, yes, there is certainly shopping in Portland, although downtown is 10-15 minutes. There is a mall on the island, about 1 mile from our marina. Gonna need crew to race?
I am your TellTale editor. Please send me the following information for the Feb. TellTale. This is a chance to reach members who do not participate in the Forum.
Date/Time/Place Address Local contact information (phone number/email) etc. Remember this is for "computer challenged" members.
I will include a short paragraph or two with this info in the newsletter.
For some of you who are visiting the Pacific Northwest and the Columbia River for the first time take a look at these great cruising stories and pictures put together by Dale Mack of the Columbia River All Catalina Association.
Along with the regatta many of us are planning on leading 2 day cruises up or down river depending on the interest of those who come. If you have a real interest in visiting a particular part of the river let us know, someone might be going that way. Remember, Portland is just over 100nm inland which makes it a two or three day cruise to get to Astoria but it's a beautiful 100 miles with lots of places to stop off and take in the wonders of nature.
