I'm considering taking my C25 to San Diego for a couple of months (Feb/March). Was wondering if anyone has info on boat yards and costs for mast-up storage areas.

I want to leave the mast up as we would be driving over from AZ on the weekends and would want to maximize our on water time. I prefer not to slip it so I won't have to worry about it, but might if I can't find a storage area (assuming short term slips are available).

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know of any mast up storage in San Diego suitable for a C25. However, there are slips available at Marina Village. You could get the spot right next to me. I'd be more than happy to keep an eye on your boat. You'd be right in the heart of the someday-to-be San Diego Mission Bay C25/250 fleet (Gary 89 wing/TR and me 78 fin/SR) would be your immediate neighbors. Costs about $250/month. Bottom cleaning costs $25. Slip to ocean in 10 minutes and you have all of Mission Bay to explore on those days the Pacific is too rough.

Lots of Zonies slip all around us in this marina.

Thanks for the info Jim, sounds like an ideal location. Close to open waters with spare parts sources in adjacent slips....

Have to give it some thought. My bottom paint is pretty sad. Since I keep the boat on the trailer, I've never done anything about it. Guess I could get away with frequent cleanings for 2 months or so.
At $500 for 2 months a couple of other alternatives kick in for consideration though.

I think you could skip bottom paint and cleaning for 2 months in winter. There's very little growth this time of year (they clean my boat every 6 weeks in winter). Just pressure wash when you pull her out.

The San Diego fleet will be glad to help you launch if you decide to come. They have no problem renting month-to-month and especially in 25 foot slips this time of year there are lots of openings.

By the way, this is about the cheapest San Diego marina available. Driscols next door is only $206 per month with no electricity or water (they charge extra for that). But they are a boatyard. Seaworld Marina is under $200 but they are past a 38 foot bridge (no problem for standard rigs). I don't think SeaWorld has openings but you could try. For an extra $100 total you would be much better off in the slip next to Gary and I.

Hey, Doug I have to agree with Jim....and Jim provided a pic of his boat in the middle, mine to the right (I see that half my boat is still there ) and the slip he is referring to is the one to the left in the picture (north side).
Anyway, give it some thought. Three 25s on the water on the weekends would be a record in the winter.

also keep in mind that you can rent a C250 for under $50/hr right next door to us. No trailering, no maintenance, only pay for sailing. They also have Catalina 18s and 22s.

Look me up when you are in San Diego and I'll show you around.
