I just bought a Catalina 250 (Tupelo Honey) and need to get it shipped from NY to Hampton VA. Any recommendations on shippers?

Congratulations Maureen!

You can take all the tea in china
Put it in a big brown bag for me
Sail right around the seven oceans
Drop it straight into the deep blue sea
She's as sweet as tupelo honey
She's an angel of the first degree
She's as sweet as tupelo honey
Just like honey from the bee

Can't help you with shipping Maureen, but WELCOME! If you have an adequate tow vehicle perhaps you could look into renting an appropriate trailer for the trip.

I strongly recomend that you buy a trailer, you got a good enough deal on the boat that you can easily buy a trailer and get your money out of it if youdecide to sell the boat. You bought a trailerable baot and it should have a trailer, one of the biggest reasons is for periodic maintenance, you will save the cost of a trailer in fees that you will save by having a trailer.

Welcome to the forum and ownership. Is it possible to leave the boat where it is for a couple of months and then maybe you could find a willing skipper to sail her to Virginia along with you. Good Luck. I have a C250 WB on the trailer so couldn't be of much help. Only a thought...."Bear"on the real hard in upstate N.Y.

I would consider signing up for that trip again. I've delivered three boats from Martha's Vineyard and that trip down the bay is great.

Depending on who you purchased it from, they might have access to a trailer or they might even be able to help with the delivery.

Your best bet is to get your own trailer and haul it down yourself or with a friend(s). You can rent a large van with a hitch on it for less than 100.00 a day if you don't have a vehicle to haul it with.

Otherwise there are lots of haulers, just do a google search for boat transport. FedEx even has a service...

Good Luck!

Congrats Maureen!

I too am a newbie to the Cat. 250 family as of last fall. I had my boat shipped from Charleston, SC to NYC by a great private company Alberts Transport (800) 591-5903 and (321) 794-7030. He came highly recommended by a friend who had his boat shipped with Albert. He's a nice guy and will work with you on price. It cost me $1200 from SC to NYC, but that was when I was desparate to get the boat out of the water and trucked- right before Hurricane Isabel hit and I had to get the boat back to my home marina up north.

It be fun to sail down too!

Hope this helps.

I really recommend you get a copy of something like Soundings and call each and every marine transport company that advertises there, or where ever you look. Compare estimates. I really suggest you indicate that you are willing to share a truck and wait for a time till they've another boat coming to your area. I shipped a 30 foot boat from Kingston, NY to San Mateo, Ca that way and save a huge amount of money by sharing the truck.

Good Luck!

I had Alcove Carriers, Rexford NY 2518-384-0689 move my boat from Nyack NY to The Great Sacandaga Lake, NY. They picked it up at Nyack and had it in the water in Mayfield by 1 p.m. Quick and courteous. I was pleased with their work. Cost $400. Thought that was reasonable.

The sail down would be fun and if all works that way, that's the way I'd prefer to make the move, but its not likely realistic.

Also, I'd strongly encourage you to join the c25/250 NA and we could start talking about a Tidewater fleet. Last count had 10-12 boats that were members of the NA.
