We suspect that we have the original main on our 1989 C25, ESSAYONS. We're wondering how to judge the condition of the mainsail & what factors would make us spring for a new one. I'm planning to send the mainsail to NORTH SAILS for evaluation & repair as

I would start by spreading out the sail then going over each seam by hand, paying especial attention to batten pockets, sail slugs, etc., looking for broken, frayed or rotted stitching and seam damage. Also try to get an idea if the fabric is sun rotted,

I am very happy with the new main, but I also bought a new genoa, and it was cut too big, and the sales agent appears to have gone out of business. I think a local sail repairer can cut it down for me. For that reason, I'm not recommending the c

Steve that is an excellent discourse on sails - I don't think that an honest sailmaker could have expressed it more eloquently.

Someone said talk to a person who bought from North.

Well, that's me. I bought a full-batten main from North in Huntington, NY last winter, and sailed with it all summer.

The previous sail was the original Catalina sail on Walkure, which is a 1979
