With so many nice responses to two threads regarding this quarter's Mainsheet, I thought it might be fun to open the topic on it's own heading.

Long before I brought Grace into cruising I took my older daughter Elizabeth on short father daughter overnight sails. We didn't venture far from Neebish Island and she was happy as long as we stopped in Richard's landing Ontario for ice cream. The first time was when she was 5 and we sailed a tiny Renken 18. A few years earlier My dad, then in his 70's abruptly sold the Cape Dory 25 we all had enjoyed for so many years. Hey, I took my honeymoon on that boat. Tassier Marine in Cedarville MI had just launched her for another season and my dad and mom were preparing to provision for the crossing of Lake Huron to Detour Passage and Neebish. My dad walked about halfway out the dock and turned around saying "I can't make that crossing again"
The marina put the boat on the market and within a few days she was sold. So my family had now to provide our own boat. The Renken was available for a good price and it would tow behind the voyager.

The interesting thing about the first cruise was the stop in Richard's landing. As Elizabeth and I were walking back to the dock with our ice cream, a large sloop was docking. A young woman in her late 20's,handling the lines while an older gentleman about my father's age was at the helm. As we chatted on the dock we learned that this father and daughter were keeping up a tradition which started much like the one Beth and I were begining. He too had taken his daughter on overnight and short cruises on much smaller boats and as his daughter had grown up so had his boats. It was great to see that the tradition was maintained and that she had obviously taken time off work to go sailing with dad.

I still sail with Elizabeth, though Grace is more adventure oriented.
Following the cruise cronicled in Mainsheet Liz and I were out for 8 days, and had some really nice sails. Her being 15 now I called it the hair and nails cruise. The cabin smelled of nail polish most of the time and we "needed" to be at marina's more often because of the shower facilities. Never the less both girls enjoy being on the water with dad and my wife Linda is glad to be with one daughter at a time.

I'm getting geared up for spring projects, lots to do....
