Towing Lady Kay around I always felt a vibration, especially at highway speeds. Initially I suspected the Suburban, and had all four wheels balanced, no help. Then I suspected flat spotting on the trailer wheels, although you'd think it would go away after 500 miles....

Then last summer, I did something unusual, I relocated the trailer, empty, about 15 miles. Felt like Godzilla had a hold of my bumper and was mad as hell.....So I refocused on the trailer wheels, and noticed, DUH, that there were no balance weights on them. I took them in for balancing, and all four were out of balance. It took some serious weights on three of them to correct them.

The fourth one was off the scale, and visibly out of round. I have ordered a new wheel, and will mount that after balancing. I will report back after the next road trip, but I suspect there will be a marked improvement.

If this rings a bell, even though it feels like the towing vehicle is the problem, apparently trailer vibrations translate into the chassis under your seat, so take a good look at your trailer wheels.

If you leave your boat on the trailer all winter you should jack it up and put it on blocks. The tires will take a permanent set (flat spot). The next year or two depending on how far and how fast you trailer you may experiance tread seperation from on or all of the tires. Road safty being paramount here if the trailer sits for long periods put it on blocks and save the tires. You dont have to remove them just get the weight off. Towing with bad tires is just asking for trouble.

Oscar, I'd bet a gold guinea that a tire is going bad.

Guess my post wasn't clear....the fourth WHEEL was out of round, clearly. Just picked up the new one today. $45.- I'll have them swap out the tire.
