You'll recall I had the C25 cracked keel. It's gonna be in the mid 40's in NH this weekend so I'm off to Lake Winnipesaukee to see the Illusion! I'm borrowing a pressure washer and will LIGHTLY wash the hull & bottom. I'm looking for reaffirmations on the following: How to best repair/seal that crack & with what? Sand smooth then glass/putty it smoothly or is it more involved (I attached the crack pix for memory refresh)? Then do I need paint none, some or all of the bottom? How to best refinish the topsides teak? I've read here that Cetol is best but do I need to sand down to bare teak since the existing finish is pretty ratty & peeling up? What's the best stuff for cleaning/polishing the hull? I told you folks that I bought her last March and launched without any cleaning but intend to keep my promise to clean her this year as she deserves. Wait 'til you see the 'after' pix!
I think that perhaps a few factors have contributed to your inability to obtain a response. First, you mention in your post that you've already addressed each of the issues on the forum previously. There tends to be a lot of duplication on the forum, so that's probably stopped many potential responses; forum participants tend to get tired of repeating themselves. Second, most all of your listed topics have been addressed several times, excluding your cracked keel, and can be found via the search function. Third, many (e.g., me) are desperately trying to complete winter projects in order to get that first sail of the season in as soon as possible. Fourth, we all tend to get a little cranky this time of year; withdrawl symptom. Finally, the internet seems to be mmoovviinngg vveerryy sslloowwllyy this week.
While you're at the lake, be sure to have a burger and sundae at Bailey's for me!
Antares has a point. If I'd spent my time researching a bit more carefully rather than typing I'd probably have found my answers. My mental clutch must be slipping. I'll try to avoid repetition in the future.
I hope you didn't take my comments the wrong way, Bob. They weren't meant to sound harsh.
Anyway, I didn't realize you were in New Boston until I read your profile again. Therefore, I'm now guessing that you keep Illusion around Laconia, and are unlikely to be stopping by Bailey's in Wolfeboro this weekend. Unfortunately, no place sticks out in my memory in Laconia or Concord.
From Concord to Portland and from Portsmouth north is positively my favorite part of the country, though. Great people, too. Enjoy! You're a lucky man.
Not at all, Antares. I do tend to be forgetful. Anyway I went up to the boat today at Fays Boatyard in Gilford, NH and found that they don't start running electric and water lines amongst the drydocked boats until mid-late April, so I didn't get anything done to the hull. I did find out that my motor mount wasn't broken, rather the spring lift was a bit stuck. Fiddled with it a bit and all's well. Now I can do more this season than just tilt the motor!
I'm going a bit stir crazy waiting for the season to start as well. Somehow, reading Sail magazine and looking at the pix is only helping to push me closer to the edge. Here's to a speedy spring!
