I would like to get some suggestions on where to install ventilation, probably solar on my catalina 25. Some have suggested mounting it on the forward hatch, but with the angle of the hatch and opening it be letting water in?

You can add a dorade box with a vent on top anywhere on deck-and it will work well in venting your boat without worry about solar-which really wouldn't work in the northwest during the past two months

I agree with Ken. It doesn't take much time for one of those solar units to go Tango Uniform. The units aren't cheap either. Dorade vent is the bst way to go. A removable one with closing deck plate.

I have installed a 3" Nicro day/night solar vent, SS, in the head compartment back in 1994. I am happy with it, except after 2 years or so, even with replacing the batteries, only works in the daytime. Also, I wish I chose the 4" model. A dorade type unit

Also, ventilating the large "lazerette" is a wise move, especially if you carry additional fuel. Just out board of the port winch, close to the shore power outlet, there exists a small part of the coaming on an angle where I have installed a SS vent, allo

Almost forgot. To increase ventillation in the v-berth, I installed 2 small SS vents, P & S, in the cabin house. There is a gap between the liner and deck house, which I filled with non expanding foam, so that is does, in fact, remove air from the V-berth

As far as where to mount a vent, the previous owner installed a Nicro solar vent in the center (fore to aft) of the head compartment. When Nicro said they don't sell replacement motors for their solar vent I replaced it with a manual vent. I had to enla
