After years of racing - I am going cruising! Well, that is, across our tiny bathtub mountain lake of Cherry Creek here in Denver!
I am in search of some decent cruising sales to simply cocktail-cruise me and family across the lake and back in e-a-s-y style. I would also like a nice jack system like Moorings uses - a quick zip and she's put away.....
I have a Harken roller furling up front. I appreciate your salty sage advice. Waiting to copy.........
Since I both race and cruise - Some of the most relaxing advice I can give you for cruising would be that perfect sail shape, while nice, requires more work than drinking a cold frothy ale. Don't over trim and don't be afraid to cleat the sheet.
As for sails - you can probably find a set of used ones by posting a wanted ad on this site or checking out some of the used sail lofts listed on the links page of the main site. the quick zip lazy jack system like moorings has might set you back a bit. Many of the members here have jury-rigged a lazy jack system or two in their day, but I don't recall anyone having the sail cover set up like they have down in the BVI's or Bahamas at Moorings.
Ulman sails in Ventura gave me a great deal on a 135 roller furling genny (under $600). Great service, too. No question, I will go there to buy my new main in a season or two.
If you just looking for cruising sails, Cruising Direct (a North Sail division) has some nice stuff. I have one of their sails.
You can check out some of the major lofts, I personally prefer Sobstad (now sobstad elvestrom after the merger)- Not sure if any of them are in Denver. Those links are on the links page as well

They used to be, anyway. <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">
Chip - not sure where the main loft is but they have lofts throughout the country
