Does anyone know the purpose of the trim (plastic) in the middle of the stern? It is kind of u shaped \____/ and our is very brittle with holes in it. It is held in place with screws.
Thanks.

Sue

Sue,

That is simply a plastic trim piece that covers the unsightly seam between the hull and the deck at the transom.

A week or so ago I replaced mine (it finally fell off) with one from Catalina Direct. I can't believe I can't remember the exact cost, but I think it was $16.00 plus shipping. It will require a little trimming to get it to fit.

Sue,

If you don't already have it, I would recommend getting the C25 Handbook/Parts catlog from Catalina Direct. It is only $10.00 and it has a lot of good information in it.

When the're new they're shiny and fairly flexible but the sun plays havoc with them and they turn to chalk in no time. Too bad they can't fabricate this part with a UV resistant material. By the way, when you trim the piece, and it probably will need trimming, be sure not to have it crack by flexing it too much.

Yes... the material in the replacement trim is very "funny" in the way it cuts... almost like it shatters along a hidden grain if you have any stress in the piece as you cut.
