I recently replaced the old aluminum spreader brackets on my 79 C25. The retrofit brackets from CD came with some wrong parts. Check your orders. One of the old bolts had a seized pressure tube and was a bear to get off. Finally sawed off both ends of bolt and punched it thru the mast. The new bracket went on OK. All holes matched up perfectly. The pressure tubes were inserted from top end of mast as there were fewer obstructions from that direction. Used a piece of plastic pipe with the tube taped on to get them aligned. There was a thread here a while back about the holes on the spreaders not lining up. I found that when the holes in the bracket lined up with the holes in the spreader that the spreaders were the correct length. If the spreader had been jammed all the way in and a new hole drilled they would have been a bit short and consequently the shrouds a bit long. Did some standing rigging also. Sent in the backstay and bridle for measurement but the backstay came back 4 inches too long. Check your orders before applying parts. Replaced end caps on the boom too. To get the frozen screws off, sawed off the heads and punched them thru with a nail punch. A mallet got the ends off. Put slightly larger screws on the new caps. Thought the above tips might help anyone doing any of the above projects.

I had the same experience with the CD backstay, which explains why they wouldn't send me the section below the split ( I have a TR) unless I measured it. I'm glad I didn't measure the old split stays before I ordered. My backstay was 4 to 6 inches longer too.
I bought sta-lock terminals and 1x19 wire from Defender, and will make up the split stays myself.
