I purchased my first sailboat in January - proud owner of an 81' Catalina 25, SR, swing keel. I can't tell you how much help this web site has been - so my hats off to the association.
My main sail is fairly shot. Looks like the original sail and seems to have lost a lot of it's shape and luster. Considering ordering one from Cruising Direct - not knowing a whole lot about differences in cruising vs. racing sails. I'm just planning on a whole lot more day and overnight sailing and looking for a good main for a starter such as myself. Any recommendations, pro or con, on sails from Cruising Direct? I was tempted to order one before I checked in. Input anyone? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the fleet, Esteban!
I don't have specific knowledge about sails from Cruising Direct, but from hanging around the forum for a while it appears that people have been mostly pleased with sails from the major players like Cruising Direct, Air Force, Catalina Direct, Ulman, UK,...etc.
As far as what you should order, you should consult the sailmaker so he can ascertain the type of sailing you do, general wind conditions for your area, how you carry your standing rigging,...etc.
Last seaon I bought a new 135 furling genoa and a main from crusiing direct, and have been pleased with the sails and the service. They "stock" sails for catalina's. The two I purchased were shipped within a couple weeks of ordering (with the sail numbers sewn on)which is great if you are like me, and think about these things in the spring, rather than the fall.
While I decided against the full batten main, I did purchase the "performance luff", adding just a bit if sail area, higher in the sail. They ship them with battens, bags, & sail ties.
I have a 135 genoa from cruising direct. No complaints at all. It seems to be a nice sail. I bought a main from Ullman Ventura/Gary Swenson and I like that sail a lot, too. Prices similar. More personalized service from Ullman Ventura when I had questions. If I ever need a new genoa, I'll probably go with Ullman, but it is almost a wash.
