How do you have your outboard connected to your battery? I have a hole in the transom that the power cords are run through and then they are spiced into another set of wires that run to the battery. This set up is ok for a non trailered boat, but when I go to remove the outboard for haul out I have to clip the wires and pull it all through the transom a real pain. Is there a quick disconnect that you use?

My fuel line is run over the transom and has a quick connect at the motor so it is not a problem. I'm looking for something similar for the electrical lines. Thanks

Mine go through a through hull fitting on the transom to a set of terminals. A new set of wires leave the terminals to the battery selector. To remove, I just have to unscrew the wing nuts and pull the wiring out the through hull

I lift the top off the motor and disconnect the quick connects inside.

I have lugs on the wires from the motor and lugs on the wires from the battery. The lugs are connected with a stainless bolt and then taped. It takes about three minutes to unbolt the lugs.

My 1980s vintage Honda 7.5 4 stroke has a quick connect on the side. I think it was standard on the motor, but perhaps you can retrofit something like it. We only remove our motor once a year (the boat is in a slip) & we just leave the connector hanging outside (the hole through the hull is sealed & its too short to get near the water.

Hi Mark

I use a heavy duty trolling motor plug and receptacle set from Marinco. It has a positive locking connection with a nice O ring seal. It is incredibly well built and has worked flawlessly for a year now. I was very concerned about corrosion in my salt water environment but it hasn't even begun to show any sign of deterioration. I apply a little silicone grease to the O ring when I make the connection and it has a great sealing cap for when it is unplugged. For contrast my all brass/bronze outboard lock corroded to the point of being useless in a few months!

West Marine model # 1422591 - it runs about 30 dollars.

I use the same studs as Duane shows, mounted near the back of the quarterberth, with a small rubber boot over a hole in the transom. The external connector on my older Honda was so corroded when I bought the boat and engine that I had to replace it--probably the reason Honda no longer uses a connector. In salt water, I prefer the connections below.

Mark, I use the same plug and socket that Clif wrote about. The prongs still have a shine after one season of use on the Chesapeake.

Thanks for the info. I was looking too deep for this one. I've looked right over those connectors in my WM catalog. This forum is GREAT because of simple stuff like this and people like you! Thanks Again
