What's the sq. ft. of the C25 bottom? 1 gallon of ablative paint covers 400 sq ft. I plan to put one coat of red then 2 of blue. I was hoping that 1/2 gallon of red would be enough for 1 coat.

I'd say the bottom of the C25 is somewhere around 200 square feet (25' x 8') more or less.

I got too good coats of Petit Ultima SR out of a gallon with paint left over. I think a half gallon per coat should be plenty.

Yeah, just calculate it as a rectangle, as Don suggested. It only needs to be accurate to the nearest quart.

I don't know the area metrics but I just got done painting the bottom of "Wind Dancer" (25ST/FK). I got 2 coats out of a gallon of Petit Trinidad SR. I didn't thin it all and *barely* finished.

I just finished painting the bottom of my boat with Petit Horizon. There was enough for two coats on the hull, but I ran out before painting the swing keel--which I painted with some West Marine paint. The Horizon paint was very thick compared to the West Marine paint. I probably could have finished the whole job had I put a bit of thinner into the Horizon.

I'd say when in doubt about bottom paint coverage, add the thinner. If you end up with a lot of thinned paint left over, just keep smearing it on. (After all, who wants to store opened but unused bottom paint? It's not going to impress the barnacles while sitting on a shelf in the garage!) It's not like you're trying to screw yourself out of a decent bottom job, like a sleazy marina applying one coat of 50%/50% paint/thinner and calling it done. If the consensus here is one gallon equals two coats, then get that plus a quart of thinner. thin one of the coats, and you're sure to finish the last one before running out of paint. Then go over the high fouling areas again with what's left. (Waterline, leading edges, bottom of keel, etc.)

I thin a bit and get just about a coat to a quart of paint. I generally subscribe to the "many thin coats" philosophy of painting.

Sailed "Wind Dancer" for the first time after painting the bottom. Wow - what a difference. It wasn't a fun job but it's like a new boat.
