edit... this is more humorous than anything else. Of course head wounds can bleed a lot, it could have been worse, I finished putting my boat away with one hand while the other was applying pressure. (I only needed to secure one line and a couple of snaps, but it sounds macho that I took care of the boat first!)
Um, what are acorns? Maybe its a C25 thing, but it that's what can happen I want to make sure I'm covered! <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">
An acorn nut is a finishing nut that is put on bolts to hide the exposed ends. It is called an acorn nut because it looks like one.
I after my first encounter with the pop-top bolts (not nearly as bad as Franks), I purchased some plastic/rubber protectors designed to slip over the end of a protruding bolt... commonly used on playground equipment.
Don't know the proper name for them, most 'big' hardware stores should have 'em.
My 81 25 came with balls that are about 3/4" dia plastic which screw onto the ends of the hanger bolts. I thought they came standard on C25s, guess not.

I have only one of those remaining (black, plastic ball which screws on the end of the bolt). It's on one side of the pop-top. The other one and those for the forward hatch I covered with things like Capt. Clam described -- I think they're called "thread covers".
On Hey Jude I used many wraps of white, self adhesive, rigging tape to build up a ball of soft material at the sharp end of the bolts. I intentionally left them long by about half inch for even more padding.
I was at the hardware store last night. In these parts, the smaller, locally-owned version of True Value seems to have a much greater selection of "miscellaneous hardware/fasteners" than the larger, national stores (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.). Anyway, the colored plastic bolt covers are actually called "Thread Protectors". In the same section of the store, I noticed they had a box of "Plastic Knobs", one which looks very much like the one 3/4" black knob that remains on my boat -- it makes me think that perhaps it wasn't original, that a previous owner installed it.
Ouch! I bet you, and a lot of others, will take care of that bolt now! Thanks for sharing your pain so we can avoid the same. I've been meaning to cap a few bolts in my boat but have not got around to it yet. I'll move it up the list!
I see that there are advantages to having an exposed pate. Looks like they did not have to shave your head to put you back together.
Make sure and wear a hat to keep that fresh scar out of the sun and it will be less noticable in the future.

Thanks! I know about those - I just didn't quite understand your post & Catalina had the good sense not to leave sharp bolts uncovered on the C250. Hope the scalp's healing quickly!
