CD is out of stock of the "handle" (which actually means "handle plus the coupling/adapter") and they have told me 4 to 6 weeks. If anyone can suggest an alternative source of the coupling/adapter, I would be estatic. I will buy it from you for a pretty penny if you have one uninstalled.
CD said to check with the Catalina factory, which I am doing. Any other ideas???
If you didn't hear the rachet working when you raised the keel, the problem is probably rust preventing the shaft which holds the racheting/locking gear from moving/engaging correctly. Just had the same problem & here's what we did to fix it. 1. Remove the winch. If you haven't done this before, you remove the cable drum by removing it's shaft which then gives you access to the winch mounting bolts. Easy removal. 2. The ratcheting/locking gear engages when the threaded portion of the shaft screws into the balance of the shaft. This happens when you raise the keel. It unscrews and automatically disengages when you lower it. On my winch, rust got between the externally threaded male portion of the shaft and the internally threaded female portion of the shaft and prevented them from screwing together. The ratcheting gear won't engage if this happens. The fix is simple. Just lubricate where the male portion of the shaft screws into the female portion of the shaft and work them loose until they screw together easily. You'll see the rachet gear engage then. George
