Yes Dave - I thought of that AFTER I'd posted the comment... Apparently the Naval Station has been devastated - 90% of the buildings damaged, most beyond repair. The marina is a little hurricane hole but shallow (7' - 10') Derek
I'm trying my best to send some prayers, positive energy, or whatever you want to call it to all of the victims.
I know that it may seem minor, but even here in Knoxville Tennessee we had some sailboat damage from Ivan. TVA drew down our lake in preparation of the rain. They drew it down so much that several boats floated under the docks, when the water came back up we had several bent stanchions, bent pulpits, and some dock damage at our club. Nothing compared to what happened down south. I had to work late on Thursday buy my dock neighbor said that my boat settled down on its wing keel, didn't move, and was thus spared damage.
Once again, my thoughts, prayers, hopes, and energy to the real victims.

From what I'm hearing, the mid-Apalachian area really got washed when Ivan stalled there. I hope all is well.

Your docks are fixed?. I am having trouble visualizing a marina on a fresh water lake with docks that don't float to adjust to lake water elevation changes. Folsom Lake fluctuates up and down at least 30' in "good" years, and as much as 75' in drought years (which 2003/2004 has been). I can't recall ever seeing a recreational boat marina with non-floating docks anywhere in California, on either fresh water or the ocean. Maybe Clear Lake and Lake Tahoe? These are natural, not man-made reservoirs, so the water level doesn't fluctuate so much.

Fixed docks (concrete and steel) are the norm around my neck of the woods and from Saturday to Sunday of this past weekend the water level dropped 2 feet.

WOW! Two feet in one day - even Folsom Lake rarely drops more than one foot a day. How much longer do you have in your slip before haulout for the winter?

It's a different climate back there. Unlike California's Mediterranean climate, they get quite a bit of summer rainfall. Most of their resivoirs don't have the ugly 'bathtub ring' from huge water level fluctuations.

The two foot drop was due to a seiche and is temporary. It happens quite a bit around here.
This time of year is also the start of the normal cyclic drop in lake levels and those of us with deeper keels have to watch closely so we can get out of the marina before we run out of water...For this reason, I have now begun paying my slip fees on a weekly basis instead of monthly in case I have to skedaddle.
First I did not stay on the boat..... I went down to the boat on Sunday and it did make it. I lost the mast and the motor but the rest of the boat looks to be ok. It is in a big pile of boats. The boat went over the dock and was on the other side. I had a lot of people that lost thier boats and their homes. I have pics and will post if I can find out how. I am in the middle clean up
If you need help posting pics, you can e-mail them to me and I'll post them on my web site for you. (Back stage, only linked to from this forum) Glad you're OK.
Just to share how far reaching Ivan was (and our problems are certainly tame compared to the south) . . . Pittsburgh finally made the national news today regarding flooding that occurred this past weekend.
